What's the story

Paytm, one of India's leading digital payment platforms, has introduced a new feature called 'Hide Payments.' The in-app option lets users move specific payments out of their main transaction log. This comes as part of the company's effort to provide more granular privacy controls at a time when digital payments are often accessed on shared devices.

Functionality

How does the 'Hide Payments' feature work?

The 'Hide Payments' feature allows users to move selected UPI transactions to a dedicated section within the app. This is done without deleting or modifying them. Even after hiding, these entries remain accessible after PIN or biometric verification. The option can be accessed via the 'Balance & History' section of the app where swiping left on a chosen transaction brings up the 'Hide' prompt for confirmation before completing action.

Restoration process

Restoring hidden transactions made easy

Restoring hidden transactions is as simple as hiding them. You just have to tap the three-dot menu in the 'Balance & History' section and select 'View Hidden Payments.' The app will ask for your PIN or biometric verification before displaying these entries. Once done, users can swipe left on any entry and select 'Unhide' to return it back to their main history view.

User feedback

Paytm's response to user demand for privacy

The 'Hide Payments' feature was introduced following user requests for greater discretion in managing financial activity, especially those who handle payments on devices used by family members or peers. At launch, Paytm claims it is the only UPI app offering this specific capability. The update is part of Paytm's latest app version which is being rolled out to users in phases.
