OpenAI co-founder foresees unpredictable AI future
Ilya Sutskever, co-founder and former chief scientist of OpenAI, thinks AI is about to get wild—he calls its future "both extremely unpredictable and unimaginable."
He warns that superintelligent AI could show up in as little as 3-10 years, possibly outpacing human control and changing pretty much everything.
AI could help cure diseases, extend human lifespans
Even with all the risks, Sutskever is hopeful about AI's good side. He believes it could help cure diseases and even extend human lifespans.
Still, he points out that society needs to keep talking about the ethics as this tech keeps evolving fast.
Who is Ilya Sutskever?
Sutskever helped create AlexNet (a big deal in neural networks) and studied under legendary AI researcher Geoffrey Hinton.
He co-founded OpenAI but left in 2024 after some leadership drama—including CEO Sam Altman's sudden exit and return—to start Safe Superintelligence Inc., a company focused on making sure super-smart AIs stay safe for everyone.
