PhonePe introduces ₹100 quarterly inactivity fee for dormant wallets
PhonePe is rolling out a ₹100 "Wallet Inactivity Maintenance Fee" for wallets that haven't been used in over a year.
This fee only applies if you have at least ₹1 left in your wallet and will be deducted every quarter, never more than what's actually in your balance.
If you've got less than ₹100, they'll just take whatever is left, but empty wallets won't be charged.
PhonePe gives 15 day notice
You'll get a heads-up 15 days before any fee is taken out, so there's time to reactivate your wallet by topping up or making a quick transaction.
UPI-linked bank accounts aren't affected at all. Industry executives say this move helps cover costs from dormant accounts and some prepaid wallet providers have historically imposed inactivity or maintenance charges on dormant balances.
No need for full KYC upgrades; just an OTP verification and making a payment using the PhonePe wallet will do if you want to get things running again.
