Xiaomi to launch a new variant of Redmi Note 8

Chinese giant Xiaomi might soon introduce a more premium variant of the recently launched Redmi Note 8. In a new development, the variant was spotted on Chinese site TENAA. It will supposedly have 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. To recall, the phone was launched in China last month alongside Redmi Note 8 Pro. They are currently available in 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB configurations. Here's more.

Redmi Note 8: At a glance

The Redmi Note 8 features an edge-to-edge look with a regular waterdrop notch design and an ultra-slim bottom bezel to offer an impressive 90% screen-to-body ratio. On the rear, the gradient finished polycarbonate panel houses quad cameras and a physical fingerprint sensor. Further, the phone sports a 6.3-inch LCD display with a full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers

In the imaging department, the Redmi Note 8 offers quad rear cameras including a 48MP (f/1.8) primary sensor, 8MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle sensor, 2MP (f/2.4) macro lens, and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor. Up front, the phone sports a 13MP (f/2.0) selfie shooter. Moreover, the rear camera can record 4K videos at 30fps, while the selfie camera supports 1080p video recording at 30fps.

    Under the hood

The Redmi Note 8 is powered by a Snapdragon 665 octa-core processor, paired with upto 6GB RAM, and upto 128GB storage. Under the hood, it runs Android Pie-based MIUI 10 and packs a 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast-charging support. Moreover, it offers all standard sensors and latest connectivity options including dual-SIMs (Nano), VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

    Finally, what about pricing?

In China, the Redmi Note 8 costs CNY 999 (approximately Rs. 10,000) for the 4GB/64GB variant and CNY 1,399 (approximately Rs. 14,000) for the top-spec 6GB/128GB model. Hence, we expect the new 8GB/256GB variant to cost somewhere around CNY 1,699 (approximately Rs. 17,999). Meanwhile, the handset is likely to arrive in India sometime around November.
