Two new jumping spider species found in Meghalaya

Technology

Scientists from the Zoological Survey of India just discovered two new jumping spiders—Asemonea dentis and Colyttus nongwar—in Meghalaya.
Their find, published in Zootaxa, bumps up the region's known jumping spider count to 45.

Why this is cool

India now has at least 327 known species of these quirky, sharp-eyed spiders that hunt by leaping onto their prey.
The new species stand out for their unique looks: A. dentis has a tooth-like projection and striking patterns, while C. nongwar is named after its home village and sports chevron markings.
This discovery shows there's still plenty left to explore in India's wild side!
