UK CMA mandates Google search transparency and data portability rights
Technology
Google just got hit with two new rules in the UK.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) wants Google's search results to be more transparent, so businesses can actually see how their rankings are decided.
Plus, users now get the right to move their search data to other trusted apps or services.
CMA says rules give users control
The CMA says these changes are about making things fairer and giving people more control online.
By holding Google more accountable, the hope is that both businesses and regular users in the UK will have a better, more open experience when using Google Search.
