University of Madras, Sutherland to open Women Studies AI lab
The University of Madras is joining hands with Sutherland Global Services to open a new AI lab in the Department of Women Studies.
Approved on November 6, 2026, this move aims to create e-learning modules for a course on Application of Artificial Intelligence, thanks to a renewed memorandum of understanding between the two.
Gender Lab revived, faculty approvals resumed
This project also brings back the Gender Lab from 2019, which had hit pause after equipment was damaged during lockdowns. Sutherland is now stepping in to upgrade it.
On top of that, the university's syndicate approved resumption of special drives at the University to grant approval of qualifications to Assistant Professors for the current academic year, and appointing principals at key colleges, giving academic leadership a boost.
