2nd ODI: Jamieson, Duffy's three-fers vs India go in vain
What's the story
India clinched a thrilling four-run victory over New Zealand in the second ODI at Wellington on Saturday. The match was affected by rain and ended under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method after India were reduced to 113/7 in 26 overs while chasing a target of 135. The win came as India's bowlers had earlier restricted New Zealand to just 134 runs in their innings. Though the Kiwis lost the game, Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy bowled vital spells to keep them in the hunt. Here we look at their performance and stats.
Bowling brilliance
Gurnoor Brar shines with 4-fer
India's bowlers put up a stellar performance, with Gurnoor Brar leading the charge with a career-best four-wicket haul.
Daryl Mitchell (55) and Mitchell Santner (31) fought back with a 59-run sixth-wicket partnership before Brar broke it by dismissing Santner.
No other Kiwi batter could even manage 12 runs as the home team could only survive 41 overs.
Chase challenges
India lose quick wickets in run-chase
Chasing a modest target of 135, India faced early setbacks as captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for a golden duck thanks to Duffy.
Virat Kohli (7) was Duffy's second victim, leaving India at 17/2.
Rohit Sharma tried to stabilize the innings with a few boundaries but was dismissed by Jamieson after scoring 23.
Axar Patel struggled at No.5 and fell for seven, leaving India reeling at 47/4 in the 13th over.
Partnership
Iyer, Rahul steady India's ship
Shreyas Iyer (30) and KL Rahul (26) tried to steady the ship with a 39-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Iyer looked confident, hitting four boundaries and a six in his 46-ball stay before Jamieson struck again.
Another collapse had further reduced the visiting team to 111/7.
However, rain interrupted play when India (113/7) were four runs ahead of DLS par score at the end of the 26th over.
As the game did not resume, India won their second consecutive game in the five-match ODI series.
