What's the story

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja put in dominating performances as India thrashed Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series. Ashwin also set a new record by becoming the fastest bowler in Test history to claim 300 wickets in just 54 matches. Here are some other records broken by Team India.

Landslide victory

India's biggest win, Sri Lanka's biggest loss

India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs at Nagpur equalling the record for their biggest Test win. However, this was bad news for the visitors as it is Sri Lanka's biggest defeat in Test cricket. India's previous landslide victory was in 2007 when Rahul Dravid led his side to an innings and 239 run victory against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Ashwin is the fastest to reach 300 Test wickets

Ravichandran Ashwin once again proved why he is India's main strike bowler in Test cricket. The ace spinner reached the 300-wicket milestone in just 54 Tests, a little over six years since he made his debut. The record was previously held by Australian bowling legend Dennis Lillee who needed 56 Tests to reach the milestone. Lahiru Gamage was Ashwin's record 300th scalp.

King Kohli

Virat Kohli's stellar form

Earlier in the game, Virat Kohli scored his 5th double ton. Kohli's all 5-double hundreds have come in the last 18 months. During the last year and a half, he has gotten out just once without converting a hundred into a double ton. He also became the Indian captain with most Test centuries (12) to his name beating the earlier record held by Gavaskar.

Records keep tumbling under Kohli's leadership

Kohli has 51 centuries in international cricket and 12 of them have come against Sri Lanka, only Tendulkar has more with 17 to his name. This was India's 7th 600+ total in Tests under Virat Kohli. No team has had more 600+ totals under a captain. Not just that, India haven't lost a series under Virat Kohli's captaincy.
