What's the story

As per reports, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has been sacked from his post, after being at the helm for two seasons. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has paid Conte £9 million as severance package. He might take the next year off from football as the Italian paves a way for former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri to replace him as the new coach of the Blues..

Successful stint

Conte won the Premier League and FA Cup with Chelsea

Despite winning the Premier League title in his first season with the club, Conte's sacking was imminent. Chelsea management, players and fans grew unhappy with Conte and his tactics especially towards the end of last season. Notably, he guided the Blues to FA Cup glory in 2017/18. Abramovich was just delaying the process until he had a suitable replacement.

Hefty price

Conte to be paid his full £9 million severance package

Despite Chelsea being linked with several managers, Conte refused to step down from his post. He even started pre-season training from Monday. Conte, who is in his final year of the contract, will be paid £9 million severance package. Official word goes that Conte parted ways with the London based club on Thursday. Interestingly, Chelsea's owner is infamous for his hire-and-fire mentality.

Transfer disputes

Conte's relationship with the management broke down

Conte grew unhappy with the transfer policy at Stamford Bridge and wanted more control during the current summer transfer window. Conte wanted a complete overhaul of the squad, which the management refused point blank. The relationship with players like Willian and Hazard slowly started breaking down as well, and Chelsea were worried about the future of their stars.

Quality players

Maurizio Sarri to bring his own reinforcements

Sarri is the most likely candidate to replace Conte. He could bring several players from Napoli including Manchester City target Jorginho. The likes of Golovin and Rugani are on his shopping list, as well. Alisson Becker could also arrive at the Bridge. Sarri did an exceptional job at Napoli last season and missed the Serie A title by a whisker to Juventus.
