What's the story

India's exquisite opener Rohit Sharma has been in the form of his life, as is evident in the ICC World Cup 2019. Sharma is currently the highest run-scorer of the tournament and has played a pivotal role in leading India to the semi-final. Following his impressive show, coach Ravi Shastri and skipper Virat Kohli showered praise on him. Here's what they had to say.

Quote

Rohit is one of the greatest ODI players: Shastri

"He [Rohit] is one of the greatest ODI players. Just seeing his records over the year, three double hundreds in ODI, no one has done that and he has been really consistent for India," said Shastri to ICC.

Kohli

Virat Kohli too impressed with Rohit's performance

Besides the coach, skipper Virat Kohli too expressed his satisfaction about the way Rohit has batted so far in the tournament. Kohli said that Rohit's achievements in this tournament have been outstanding and he deserves all the credit. "According to me, he is the top ODI player in the world at the moment," Kohli said in the pre-match conference.

Kohli wants Rohit to score a couple of more centuries

"Personal milestones, honestly, is something that no one ever focuses on. In a team sport, you need to adapt and I'm very happy doing that role and I hope he [Rohit] gets two more so we can win two more games," added Kohli.

Tendulkar

Rohit can go past Sachin Tendulkar

As Rohit continues his ruthless form in this World Cup, he has a chance to script history and eclipse Sachin Tendulkar's record. If he manages to score 27 more runs, he would go past Sachin Tendulkar and become the leading run-scorer in a single World Cup. While Tendulkar holds the record, scoring 673 runs in 2003, Rohit is currently on 647 in this tournament.
