Bayern Munich's Harry Kane has been awarded the 'Men's Player of the Year' in Germany. The honor comes after a record-breaking season with Bundesliga champions Bayern and a stellar FIFA World Cup campaign with England. Kane received 272 votes from members of the Association of German Sports Journalists, beating his teammate Michael Olise (203) and Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav (61), as per Kicker.
Stellar achievements
Kane scored 61 goals for Bayern last season
Kane, who captains England, netted an impressive 61 goals in 51 competitive matches for Bayern last season.
36 of his goals came in the Bundesliga from 31 appearances.
He also had a stellar FIFA World Cup run with England, scoring six goals as the team reached the semifinals.
Kane became England's all-time leading scorer at World Cups, taking his overall tournament tally to 14.
Recognition
Kane received the European Golden Shoe
Earlier, Kane was also awarded the European Golden Shoe for the second time in his career, having been crowned as Europe's top league goalscorer.
Former Bayern striker Luca Toni suggested that Kane is also worthy of the Ballon d'Or, football's leading individual award.
"It was the best season of my career so far," said Kane after winning his second European Golden Shoe.
Coaching honor
Vincent Kompany named 'Trainer of the Year'
Bayern Munich's coach, Vincent Kompany, was awarded the 'Trainer of the Year.' He received 314 votes after leading Bayern to a league and cup double.
Freiburg coach Julian Schuster, who won last year, came second with 87 votes while Stuttgart's Sebastian Hoeness was third with 53.
Schuster praised Kompany for being not just a good coach but also someone who improves those around him.
Women's award
Giulia Gwinn awarded 'Women's Player of the Year'
Bayern's Giulia Gwinn has been awarded the 'Women's Player of the Year.' She won outright after sharing first place with goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger last year.
The 27-year-old Bayern defender received 106 votes, narrowly beating her teammate Klara Buhl (94).
"This is an honor and a validation of my journey," said Gwinn upon receiving the award.
