    What's the story

Women's singles world No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland reached the third round of the US Open 2024 on Thursday with a 6-0, 6-1 dismissal of Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Swiatek, who won the 2022 US Open, is chasing her 6th Grand Slam title.

Notably, Swiatek made her 19th straight Grand Slam third round appearance. Here we decode the stats.

    Record

Swiatek becomes 5th player with this record

As per Opta, Swiatek is the fifth player in the Open Era to reach R32 in 19-plus consecutive Grand Slam tournaments, joining Martina Navratilova, Stefanie Graf, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and Conchita Martinez.

Swiatek is also the youngest player to win 20 of their first 22 second round appearances since Victoria Azarenka in 2012 who won 21 of her first 22 2nd-round matches.
