Rohit, Kohli script history as India win T20I-series against Windies

The Indian cricket team overcame West Indies in the third T20I on Wednesday at the Wankhede in Mumbai. With this win, India sealed the T20I series by a 2-1 margin. Batting first, Team India posted a mammoth target of 241. KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stole the show. Windies failed to get past the target. Here are the records broken.

Rohit, Kohli and Rahul notch these impressive feats

Rohit Sharma (71) and Virat Kohli (70*) have 2,633 runs each in T20Is. Rohit smashed his 19th career T20I fifty. Meanwhile, Kohli notched his 24th career T20I fifty. Kohli, who has the most fours in T20Is, is three short of the 250 mark in the format (247). Rahul (91) hit his eighth career T20I fifty. He now has 50 sixes and 102 fours.

India amass record-breaking score in T20Is

India recorded their third-highest score in T20Is. The total of 240/3 is India's second-best T20I score against West Indies. It is also their second-best team total on home soil. This is now the highest T20I total at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit third cricketer to smash 400-plus international sixes

Rohit slammed five sixes on Wednesday and now has smashed 400-plus international sixes across formats. The senior cricketer has hit 404 sixes in his international career so far (232 in ODIs, 52 in Tests, 120 in T20Is). He became the first Indian to achieve this mark. Shahid Afridi (476) and Chris Gayle (534) are the others who have hit 400-plus sixes in international cricket.

Rohit, Kohli and Rahul amass special feats against WI

Rohit went past 500 runs against West Indies in T20Is (519). This was his fourth career T20I fifty against WI as well. Kohli also surpassed the 500-run mark in T20Is against WI (501). He slammed his fifth career T20I fifty against WI. Rahul became the third Indian batsman to surpass 350 runs against WI in T20Is. This was also second T20I fifty against WI.

Notable records scripted in this match

Team India amassed its 22nd century stand in T20Is. This is the joint-best tally, along with Australia. The 135-run stand between Rohit and Rahul is now the sixth-highest stand for India in T20Is and the fifth-highest for the first wicket. This was the second occasion where Rohit and Rahul got 50-plus scores while opening for India in T20Is.

Kohli gets past 1,000 T20I runs in India

Kohli became the fourth batsman in world cricket to surpass 1,000 T20I runs in a country. Martin Guptill in New Zealand, Mohammad Shahzad in UAE and Colin Munro in New Zealand are the other three in this list. Kohli smashed his fifty in 21 balls. Former Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh (12, 20 and 20) and Gautam Gambhir (19) have got to faster fifties.

Pollard surpasses 1,000 career T20I runs and other feats

This is the first instance in T20Is where batsmen of the same team scored 70-plus runs in a T20I innings. West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard became the fourth West Indian to get past 1,000 career T20I runs. This was India's third T20I series win this year. India also registered their second T20I series win against WI in 2019.

How did the match pan out?

India got off to a terrific start and that set the base for a big total. Both the openers scored freely and scored boundaries. After Rohit's departure, Rishabh Pant (0) came in and departed soon. Kohli took charge and wrecked havoc. WI, who lost Evin Lewis to injury, suffered at the start (17/3). Pollard and Shimron Hetmyer showed character, but it was never enough.
