What's the story

Match 8 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) will see Delhi Capitals (DC) take on Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday. Both teams have had a winning start to their season, making this an exciting contest. While DC started their campaign with a victory over Lucknow Super Giants, MI defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in their opener. Here we look at the player battles that can headline the DC-MI clash.

#1

KL Rahul vs Trent Boult

One of the most consistent batters in IPL history, KL Rahul was out for a golden duck in DC's opener. The opener would be raring to bounce back. However, in Trent Boult, he faces one of the best new-ball bowlers going around. As per ESPNcricinfo, the two have faced each other 15 times in T20 cricket, with Boult getting the better of Rahul thrice. However, Rahul has scored 140 runs off 93 balls in this battle, striking at 150.53.

#2

Axar Patel vs Rohit Sharma

Veteran MI opener Rohit Sharma has started the season with a bang, hammering a 38-ball 78 against KKR. As the dasher was brilliant in the powerplay against KKR pacers, DC captain Axar Patel might introduce himself with the new ball. The left-arm spinner has a strong record against Rohit in IPL, trapping him three times across 10 innings. Rohit has scored 63 runs against him at a paltry strike rate of just 91.30.

Sameer Rizvi vs Jasprit Bumrah

Sameer Rizvi starred for DC against LSG with an unbeaten 70 runs off 47 balls. MI would not want to face his wrath in the end overs, and Jasprit Bumrah might have the onus to ensure the same. Bumrah, who can dominate the slog overs with his yorkers and slower deliveries, has a jaw-dropping economy rate of 6.8 in death overs since the start of 2024 (T20 cricket).
