South Africa suffer major blow ahead of Namibia T20I tri-series

South African middle-order batter, Jason Smith, has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I tri-series in Namibia. The decision comes after he suffered an adductor muscle strain. Smith was a part of South Africa's squad at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup and was one of the more experienced players in an otherwise experimental group for this series.

Smith's absence will be felt
Having played 11 T20Is and three ODIs for South Africa, Smith's absence will be felt in the squad.
However, the team has not announced a replacement for him yet.
The other batters in the squad are Tony de Zorzi, Dewald Brevis, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Connor Esterhuizen, and the Hermann brothers - Jordan and Rubin.
Injury concerns
Third injury concern in South Africa camp
Smith's injury is the third such case in the South African camp in recent days.
Kagiso Rabada suffered a hamstring injury during winter training, while Senuran Muthusamy missed out on a game for South Africa A against Bangladesh A due to lower back spasm.
Both Rabada and Muthusamy were not scheduled to play in Namibia as South Africa prepares for a busy home summer with eight Tests lined up.
