Lower-order South African batters with this accomplishment against India (ODIs)
What's the story
In what can be called a high-scoring thriller, India defeated South Africa by 17 runs in the first ODI of a three-match series. Chasing 350 in Ranchi, South Africa suffered an early collapse but later fought back strongly. The rescue act was led by two of SA's lower-order batters - Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch. On this note, we look at the instances of multiple SA batters, operating at seven or lower, recording 50-plus scores in an ODI versus India.
#1
Jansen & Bosch in Ranchi, 2025
In the aforementioned match against India, South Africa's innings started on a disastrous note as they were reduced to 11/3. Three of their batters then scored fifties, and out of them two were number-seven Jansen and number-eight Bosch. Jansen hammered a 26-ball fifty before ending up with 70 runs from just 39 balls. Bosch's knock of 67 came from 51 balls. Despite this valiant fightback, the team was eventually bowled out for 332 runs in 49.2 overs.
#2
Kemp & Hall in Cape Town, 2006
The only other batters on this list are former all-rounders Justin Kemp and Andrew Hall. The duo frustrated Indian bowlers with their special knocks in the 2006 Cape Town ODI. While Kemp made a brilliant 100* off 89 balls, Hall took 47 balls for his 56*. Their unbeaten 138-run stand for the eighth wicket took SA from 136/7 to 274/7. South Africa later won by a massive 106 runs.
