What's the story

Brazilian striker Neymar has been in the headlines lately for all the wrong reasons. A Brazilian woman had alleged that Neymar raped her in a Paris hotel. While the allegations have impacted him psychologically, it seems they have also taken a toll on his transfer value. As per reports, his value has dropped by more than 40% since the world-record transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Do you know?

Neymar suffers massive drop in transfer value

According to CIES Football Observatory, Neymar's transfer value has witnessed a dramatic fall in the past two years. While he was roped in by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a whopping €222 million, it has fallen by more than 40%. He is valued around €120-150 million.

Blame game

Rape allegations and injuries to be blamed

Talking about this dramatic fall in value, it is being said that while the ongoing rape allegations have definitely impacted it, it is not the only reason. Since his arrival to PSG in 2017, Neymar has been injury prone. He has played just 51.8% of his matches. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have played 77% and 87% of their matches, respectively.

Back to Barca?

Neymar wants to leave PSG as Barcelona want him back

Although Neymar has one of the best goal-scoring percentages at PSG, he is reportedly not happy at the club, especially given the rape allegations had a Paris connection. As a result, Neymar is looking to leave the club, while his former club Barcelona are waiting on an official confirmation to pounce on their superstar. However, there is no confirmation on the rumored bidding amount.
