Liverpool sign Osasuna winger Victor Munoz for £34.5m: Details here
What's the story
Liverpool have announced the signing of Osasuna winger Victor Munoz for a fee of £34.5 million. The Spanish international, who is currently participating in the FIFA World Cup, underwent a medical examination with Liverpool in the United States. He is expected to sign a six-year contract at Anfield soon. The transfer fee will be paid in two installments by Liverpool, as per Sky Sports News.
Player profile
Munoz is a versatile winger
Munoz is a versatile winger who mainly plays on the left but can also play on the right and through the middle. Liverpool had been interested in him for a long time, an interest that intensified with new head coach Andoni Iraola's appointment. The 22-year-old joined Barcelona's La Masia academy at 11 before moving to Real Madrid's youth team in 2023. He made his La Liga debut under Carlo Ancelotti in May 2025 as a substitute for Vinicius Junior against Barcelona.
Transfer plans
Munoz's arrival doesn't end Liverpool's pursuit of Diomande
Liverpool had always planned to sign more than one winger this summer as part of their strategy to replace Mohamed Salah. Munoz's arrival doesn't end their interest in RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, who is their top wide target this summer. As per Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig turned down a €100m proposal received from Liverpool for Diomande. RB Leipzig want more than €100m. Leipzig's are keen to renew Diomande's contract.
Squad dynamics
Munoz's versatility and Chiesa's future
Munoz's versatility will give Iraola more options and make Liverpool better equipped to handle injuries, as seen last season. His ability to play in multiple positions is also seen as a positive within the club, as it won't hinder Rio Ngumoha's first-team chances. Federico Chiesa's future was uncertain after limited opportunities under former head coach Arne Slot. However, Iraola wants to give everyone a clean slate and Chiesa could fit better into his style of football than Slot's.

Do you know?
Liverpool hijack deal as Newcastle miss out
Newcastle United were the frontrunners to secure Munoz's services and thought they had a deal for the Spain international with a medical too planned. However, Liverpool hijacked the move. Even last summer, Liverpool hijacked Hugo Ekitike after Newcastle moved for the striker.
