What's the story

Although India lost the 1st Test to South Africa at Eden Gardens, Ravindra Jadeja entered an elite list. He became only the fourth player with the double of 4,000 Test runs and 300 wickets, further stamping his authority as one of the most prolific all-rounders in Test cricket. Jadeja now shares this rare feat with some of the all-time greats.

#1

Ian Botham (England)

Sir Ian Botham was a trendsetter in the 1980s among all-rounders. He became the first-ever player with 4,000-plus and 300-plus wickets in Tests. He recorded 5,200 runs and 383 wickets across 102 Tests. An all-time English great, Botham averaged over 33 with the bat, scoring 14 tons. He powered England to several momentous wins. With the ball, the former seamer averaged 28.40 (27 fifers).

#2

Kapil Dev (India)

A few years later, former Indian captain Kapil Dev joined Botham in this special club of all-rounders. An icon who transformed fast-bowling in India, Kapil bowed out with 5,248 runs and 434 wickets from 131 Tests. While the former speedster propelled India to victory with his majestic spells, including 23 fifers, he hammered 8 tons. His knack for counter-attacking with the bat stood out.

#3

Daniel Vettori (New Zealand)

Daniel Vettori's all-round credentials helped him scale new heights for New Zealand. He became the first-ever spinner with the double of 4,000 runs and 300 wickets in Test cricket. Playing 113 Tests, the Kiwi great amassed 4,531 runs at 30, including six centuries, while collecting 362 wickets with his left-arm spin. Vettori became only the second NZ player with 300 Test wickets.

#4

Ravindra Jadeja (India)

As mentioned, Jadeja is the latest entrant on this list. Across 88 Tests for India, Jadeja has recorded 4,035 runs at an average of 38.42. His tally includes six tons and 27 half-centuries. With the ball, the left-arm spinner boasts 342 wickets at an average of 25.10 (5W: 15). He recently became the third spinner to complete 150 ICC World Test Championship wickets.
