When Rassie van der Dussen made his international debut for South Africa in 2018, he was only a few months shy of 30. But that did not deter him from his path. Hailing from Pretoria, van der Dussen made his first-class debut for Northerns in 2008. In 2011, he joined Highveld Lions. Despite his success in domestic cricket, he was overlooked by the national selectors. Apart from being a rock at the top of the order, van der Dussen is a handy leggie as well. His knack of picking wickets added to his value. His performances in various T20 leagues finally caught the selector’s attention. He made his debut in a T20I against Zimbabwe. His ODI debut came against Pakistan in 2019. Unfazed by international cricket, he scored a fifty on his T20I debut and came agonizingly close to a century on his ODI debut. Since his debut, he has been a constant presence in the national team.
