Roger Federer achieved the feat of winning the eighth Wimbledon title of his career, the most by any male player in the history of the tournament.

Not only that, he also became the oldest player to win at Wimbledon at the age of 35.

Federer won the tournament without dropping a set, another first for the world number three.

Johanna Konta defeated Simona Halep and became the first British woman to reach the semi-finals of the tournament since Virginia Wade in 1978. Johanna's run did not last long as she lost to Venus Williams in the semis.

    Women's singles

First Wimbledon title for Garbine Muguruza

Garbine Muguruza defeated Venus Williams and became the second Spanish woman to win a singles title in the 146-year old history of Wimbledon.

Garbine had defeated Serena in the 2016 French Open final.
