Rohit Sharma becomes second batter to complete 350 ODI sixes
What's the story
Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma has added another feather to his cap by becoming just the second player in history to complete 350 sixes in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He has joined Pakistan's Shahid Afridi, who finished his career with 351 maximums. The milestone was achieved with Rohit's first maximum during India's series opener against South Africa in Ranchi. Here are his stats.
Record breaker
Rohit's six-hitting prowess in ODIs
Rohit Sharma, fondly known as 'Hitman,' has been a nightmare for bowlers with his aggressive batting style. He took 277 games to complete 350 sixes in the ODI format. Besides Rohit and Afridi, West Indies's Chris Gayle (331) is the only other batter in the 300 sixes club. Among active players, England's Jos Buttler is closest to Rohit with 182 sixes.
Milestone
Only player with this feat
Out of Rohit's 350 ODI sixes, a whopping 180 have come in India. No other player has even 150 sixes in this regard. The Indian opener has tallied 105 sixes in away (home of opposition) games. Afridi (134) is the only player with 100-plus sixes in these games. Rohit's remaining 65 sixes have come in neutral matches.
Six club
Only cricketer in 600-sixes club
Last year, Rohit became the first-ever player to smack 600 sixes across formats in international cricket. He now owns over 640 maximums as Gayle remains the only other player to have slammed over 500 maximums (553). Only one other player has more than 400 sixes in international cricket - Afridi (476). Among Indians, MS Dhoni follows Rohit with 359 international maximums.
