Here's why Sanju Samson trade deal with DC collapsed

Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Indian wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson are making headlines over his potential exit from the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. The Kerala lad, who has been with the Royals for 11 seasons, was reportedly on the verge of a move to Delhi Capitals (DC). However, the deal fell through at the last minute due to an unexpected demand from RR.

The Times of India reported that RR had agreed to a swap deal with DC, which would have seen Samson traded for South African middle-order batter Tristan Stubbs. However, the deal hit a snag when RR demanded that uncapped batter Sameer Rizvi also be included in the trade. This demand was outrightly rejected by DC owners, leading to the collapse of the deal.

The proposed trade was so advanced that even senior players in the DC camp, including some overseas stars, were aware of it. The only thing pending was an official announcement before the Capitals decided to pull out. Now, RR are in talks with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a swap deal involving Samson and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Just like the deal with DC, RR want CSK to include another player in the trade apart from Jadeja. The names of Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis have been discussed so far. However, CSK are not keen on adding another player as part of the swap deal. This could complicate negotiations for Samson's potential move to CSK.

Captain Samson wanted to leave RR after this decision
Samson, who is RR captain, made the reported request to leave after a series of differences with the franchise. One major issue was the team's decision to release Jos Buttler ahead of IPL mega auctions last year. The 30-year-old has been vocal about his disappointment over the decision. "Letting him (Buttler) go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me," Samson had said on Star Sports.
