Football: Top 5 summer transfers of 2018

Association football comes with the excitement of transfers and all the drama surrounding it. Footballers are sold to other clubs or they jump ship to secure better deals or more playing time than what they received previously. With the excitement of the World Cup over and most leagues about to kick off within a month, here's a look at 5 best transfers this summer.

    Blind set to leave United

After spending 4 seasons at Manchester United, the Dutch mid-fielder has signed a contract to join his boyhood club Ajax from where he had earlier joined the Red Devils. Blind is joining Ajax for a transfer fee of £14.2 million. "I will miss you, the Theatre of Dreams, but now it's time to go home", the Dutchman had tweeted earlier today.

Italian mid-fielder follows club coach to Chelsea

Brazil-born Italian mid-fielder Jorginho has been roped in by Chelsea from Napoli, where he had a successful spell under coach Maurizio Sarri. Sarri too has been brought in by the Blues to replace Antonio Conte as their new manager. Initially, Jorginho was linked with a move to Manchester City, but Sarri's move to Chelsea brought about a change in plans for the Italian mid-fielder.

    Klopp ropes in Swiss star

The Swiss forward Xherdan Shaqiri has been signed by Liverpool this summer from Stoke City for a fee of £12 million. Shaqiri, the former Bayern and Inter Milan player, is Liverpool's 3rd signing after Naby Keita and Fabinho. The club's official site reports manager Jurgen Klopp stating "I think the English phrase to explain the decision to sign Xherdan is a 'no-brainer'.

    Bought just after 18 months

Sevilla have sold Clement Lenglet, this summer, to Barcelona when the Catalan giants decided to trigger his buyout clause. The central defender can become a key player at Barcelona as substitutes for starting forwards Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti. Clement has been given a 5-year deal by Blaugrana, with a buyout clause of €300 million.

GOAT on his way to create another history

After creating history at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo has made a move to Juventus this summer. The star marksman was Real Madrid's most important factor in their phenomenal success in recent years. The Old Lady has paid Los Blancos a fee of around €100 million. All eyes will be on CR7 as he takes on a new challenge at the age of 33.
