What's the story

Bangladesh batting star Towhid Hridoy brought up a sensational double-hundred on the third day of the second Test against West Indies at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The middle-order batsman put up a masterclass in his third Test match to bail his team out of trouble. He finished unbeaten on 242 as the Tigers finished at 386/10, earning a 30-run lead. The Caribbean side had earlier posted a strong first-innings total of 356 runs.

Match dynamics

A stunning knock from Hridoy

The hosts were reduced to 22/2 when Hridoy arrived to bat.

He was involved in a vital 71-run stand alongside veteran Mushfiqur Rahim (34) to take his side past 120.

However, another collapse left Bangladesh reeling at 184/7.

Hridoy then showcased real character by dominating a 117-run stand alongside Taijul Islam (22).

The former completed his hundred during the course and took his team past the 300-run mark.

Hridoy continued the good work and got to a fine double-hundred.

Feat

Hridoy's record-breaking knock

Hridoy further added 85 runs with Taskin Ahmed (12) before the latter was dismissed.

The former walked back for 242* off 359 balls - the new highest individual score by a Bangladesh batter in Tests.

He went past Mushfiqur Rahim's 219* against Zimbabwe in the 2018 Mirpur match.

Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal are Bangladesh's other double-centurions in Tests, having reached the feat once each.

Meanwhile, Mahmudullah's 136 in Mirpur (2018) was Bangladesh's previous highest individual score against WI.
