No salary yet for the Indian cricket team
Reportedly, captain Virat Kohli and his team-mates are yet to receive the match fees from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the first half of 2016-17 season. The cricketers in the playing XI of the test match are supposed to get Rs 15 lakh for every test match, while those on bench are supposed to get Rs 7 lakh.
No incentive paid too
Apart from the match fees, the incentive of Rs 1-crore promised to every member of the victorious team for the series against Australia has also not been paid till now.
Delay of payment due to tussle between BCCI and COA?
According to a BCCI official, the payment has been delayed due to the shift of power in BCCI after the implementation of reforms suggested by the Lodha Panel. The official said, "The BCCI didn't have the official signatory in February and later there was confusion over whether Amitabh Choudhary can clear these payments because only the secretary can give all approvals."
Indian women's cricket team also awaiting payment
The Indian women's cricket team are also waiting for their match fee cheques. Each member of the women's national team receives Rs 1 lakh per series win. The payment is stuck because no official agreement has been signed till date between them and the BCCI.
"Such delays have never happened earlier"
A member of the Indian cricket team said, "Usually, we get our dues within a month or 15 days of a Test match but this time, the delay has been long. Such delays have never happened earlier." Last month, Vinod Rai led Committee of Administrators had decided a new system to pay the match fees via wire transfers instead of giving cheques.
