'Brought peace after 3,000yrs': Trump claims he ended 8 wars
What's the story
United States President Donald Trump has once again taken credit for ending "eight wars in 10 months," citing tariffs as a key factor. In a recent address, the 79-year-old reiterated his fondness for the word "tariffs" while criticizing his predecessor Joe Biden for leaving him with a "mess." He claimed to have restored American strength and ended conflicts such as the Iran nuclear threat and war in Gaza.
Statement
What Trump saidĀ
Presenting his administration's 2026 agenda, he said, "I've restored American strength, settled eight wars in 10 months, destroyed the Iran nuclear threat and ended the war in Gaza, bringing peace for the first time in 3,000 years." While he did not name the other conflicts, he has repeatedly claimed that he ended wars between India and Pakistan, Thailand and Cambodia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Kosovo and Serbia, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Rwanda and the Congo.
Economic claims
Trump credits tariffs for economic boost
Despite declining approval ratings and rising inflation, Trump credited tariffs for boosting the US economy. He said, "We made a lot more money than anybody thought because of tariffs." This comes after his administration's major tax cuts legislation earlier this year. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll showed only 33% of Americans approve of Trump's economic handling so far.
Blame game
Trump blames Biden for current economic state
In his address, Trump also blamed Joe Biden and the previous Democratic administration for current issues like immigration and inflation. He said, "When I took office, I inherited a mess, and I'm fixing it." Trump also announced sending $1,776 to over 1.4 million US service members before Christmas. He called these payments "warrior dividends" and implied they were funded by tariff revenues. "Nobody deserves it more than our military, and I say congratulations," he added.
