Prince Harry-Meghan to visit UK with kids after 4 years
What's the story
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to visit the United Kingdom next month, according to British media reports. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be accompanied by their two children, Archie and Lilibet. This will be their first trip to the UK as a family in four years. The couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, USA.
Event timing
Visit comes ahead of Invictus Games in Birmingham
The Sussex family's visit comes a year before the Invictus Games, a sporting event founded by Harry. The biennial event will be held in Birmingham from July 10-17, 2027. It is not yet known if King Charles III will meet his grandchildren during this visit. The last time they saw each other was during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
Family dynamics
Possible reconciliation on the cards?
Harry has previously expressed his desire to reconcile with his family. This visit could be an opportunity for that, especially after a brief meeting with King Charles III last year. Meanwhile, Markle hasn't visited England since September 2022 when she attended Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. Moreover, the couple's relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton remains strained since their last visit in 2022.
Ongoing tensions
Will Archie and Lilibet meet their royal cousins?
The Sussex family's relationship with the royal family has been rocky, especially after the release of their docuseries Harry & Meghan and Harry's memoir, Spare. It is unclear if Archie and Lilibet will meet their uncle and aunt during this trip. However, the young royals did meet the late Queen Elizabeth and Charles in 2022.
