Australian police thwart terror plot to bring down plane

In a major joint-counter terrorism operation, the Australian police stopped a suspected plot to bring down a plane. Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull said that raids on five properties in the Sydney suburbs helped in combating the terror plot. At least four people have been arrested in the raids and investigators have seized material that could have been used to make an IED bomb.

Extra security at domestic, international airports: PM Turnbull

With Australia's national terrorism threat advisory system listing the threat level as "probable", tight security has now been implemented at Australian airports. In fact, Virgin Australia airline has issued a statement advising passengers to arrive at the airport two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight. Other measures being taken are additional screening of bags.

Foiled terror plot under investigation, says Australian Police

After PM Malcolm Turner said he believed that the attack which was averted could have been Islamic-inspired terrorism, Australian Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin said details were scant on the specifics of the attack, including the location and timing. Colvin further said they were investigating information which indicated that the aviation industry was potentially a target of that attack.
