What's the story

A pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted in Andhra Pradesh's Sri Sathya Sai district during celebrations for Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's birthday on December 21. The victim, Sandhya Rani, had requested the accused to burst firecrackers away from the crowd due to safety concerns. In response, Ajay Deva and another YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) activist, Anjinappa, allegedly strangled her and kicked her in the stomach with the intention to harm her unborn child.

Legal action

Accused arrested, 2nd suspect at large

Following the incident, Deva was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. He was then paraded from the RTC Bus Stand Circle to the Rural Police Station in Kadiri town under police escort. The second accused, Anjinappa, is still at large, and efforts are on to trace him. Kadiri Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shiva Narayanaswamy confirmed that the assault was carried out with "clear criminal intent" and strict legal action has been initiated against the accused.
