What's the story

Italian automaker Benelli has raised the prices of its Leoncino 500 middleweight scrambler motorcycle in India. Following the latest price revision, the two-wheeler has become costlier by up to Rs. 30,100 and starts at Rs. 4.96 lakh. As for the highlights, the bike has a sporty design, offers full-LED lighting, and draws power from a 500cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine.

Context

Why does this story matter?

Due to rising input costs, almost all automakers in India are raising the prices of their models and Benelli is no exception. The cost of the two-wheeler has gone up but it has received no cosmetic or mechanical changes. It is unclear whether its sales will be affected. The vehicle rivals the likes of the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650.

Design

The bike has a single-piece seat and round headlight

The Benelli Leoncino 500 sits on a steel tube frame and has a muscular fuel tank, a single-piece seat with a tuck and roll design, a two-tone front fender with a Lion of Pesaro motif, and a rear fender-mounted number plate holder. The bike packs an all-LED lighting setup, an LCD instrument console, and is offered in Steel Grey and Leoncino Red shades.

Information

It is fueled by a 47hp, 500cc engine

The Benelli Leoncino 500 is powered by a BS6-compliant 500cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The mill generates a maximum power of 46.8hp at 8,500rpm and 46Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm.

Safety

It gets 50mm inverted front forks

To ensure the rider's safety, the Benelli Leoncino 500 is equipped with disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels, along with dual-channel ABS for improved handling on the roads. Suspension duties on the motorbike are taken care of by 50mm inverted forks on the front side and a shock absorber with preload adjustment on the rear end.
