These limited-run BMW M cars celebrate Nurburgring's 100th anniversary
What's the story
BMW is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the legendary Nurburgring racetrack by unveiling six limited-edition models from its M division. The "100 Jahre Nurburgring" collection includes the M2, M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, M4 Coupe, M5 Sedan, and M5 Touring. Each car in this special lineup gets a unique design inspired by the iconic German circuit.
Motorcycles
Motorrad also gets 3 special-edition models
The "100 Jahre Nurburgring" collection isn't just limited to cars.
BMW's Motorrad division has also joined the celebration with three special-edition models: the M 1000 RR, M 1000 R, and M 1000 XR.
However, while each motorcycle will be limited to just 100 units globally, production numbers for the six car models are yet to be revealed by BMW.
Features
All models get a unique design theme
All nine models in the "100 Jahre Nurburgring" collection sport a unique design theme inspired by the iconic racetrack.
This includes an exclusive color called Nurburgring Green, model-specific graphics, and green accents.
The cars also feature a "Nurburgring since 1927" logo along with the silhouette of Nordschleife, one of the most challenging racetracks in the world.
Striped design
Some cars feature stripes on carbon-fiber roofs
The M2, M3 Sedan, M4 Coupe and M5 Sedan have been given special-edition stripes on their carbon-fiber roofs.
The M3 Touring and M5 Touring also get the same treatment but with stripes on the standard steel roof, as BMW doesn't offer these wagons with a carbon-fiber roof.
If Nurburgring Green is too flashy for your taste, buyers can also opt for the more subdued Black Sapphire Metallic.
Specs
Inline-six engines meet Euro 7 norms
The interior of the special-edition models is done in black with contrasting green and white stitching.
The inline-six models get an M Alcantara steering wheel with matching stitching and a red 12 o'clock marker.
As for the engines, M2, M3 Sedan, and M4 Coupe get an updated inline-six engine that meets Euro 7 regulations without compromising performance.
However, this tech won't be available on North American-spec M cars for now.
Powertrain
M5s detuned to meet Euro 7 regulations
The M5 models on the continent have been detuned to meet Euro 7 regulations.
The sedan and wagon share a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine, which now makes 536hp, 41hp less than before.
However, the hybrid powertrain's total output remains unchanged at 717hp as BMW compensates for the loss in internal combustion engine (ICE) power by increasing electric motor output.
