India announces PM e-Drive up to 35% electric ambulance subsidy
India just announced a new push for greener emergency vehicles: under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, electric ambulances will get a subsidy of up to 35% off their ex-factory price.
The government set aside ₹500 crore for this, aiming to make EVs more common and cut down on fossil fuels.
This move is part of a bigger plan to upgrade public transport and charging infrastructure.
Caps ₹30,000/kWh and 5yr/125,000km warranties
The deal covers Patient Transport, Basic Life Support, and Advanced Life Support ambulances (Types B, C, and D).
There's a cap of ₹30,000 per kWh of battery capacity, plus each ambulance needs at least five years or 125,000km warranty on the vehicle, battery, and motor.
Electric ambulances are already rolling in places like the US and Japan, with ranges up to 320km, so India's shift could mean cleaner air and faster emergency care for everyone.
