Jeep's Recon EV delivers 650hp and trail-ready ruggedness
What's the story
Jeep has unveiled its latest all-electric SUV, the Recon. The new model is part of Jeep's plan to electrify its portfolio with models like the Recon and Wagoneer S. The Recon comes with two electric motors that produce a combined output of 650hp and 841Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-97km/h in just 3.6 seconds, making it a powerful addition to Jeep's lineup.
Design details
Recon's design and features
The Recon is built on the STLA Large platform, which also underpins the Dodge Charger Daytona EV and Jeep Wagoneer S. It has a 100.5kWh battery pack that offers an estimated range of up to 402km. The SUV retains Jeep's signature seven-slot grille, albeit illuminated, and comes with U-shaped LED daytime running lights around LED headlights.
Off-road prowess
Recon's off-road capabilities and interior features
The Recon comes with four-wheel drive and a Trail Rated badge, indicating its off-roading capabilities. It also has an electric locking differential for improved power delivery. The Moab trim of the SUV features Jeep's Selec-Terrain management system with five drive modes, including one specifically for rocks. The interior of the Recon features two vertically oriented screens: a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.5-inch center infotainment screen running Uconnect 5 software.
Production plans
Recon's production and pricing details
Jeep will start building the Recon at its Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico next year. The SUV will first be sold in the US and Canada, followed by a global rollout. The company has revealed a starting price of $65,000 for the Recon and has said it will adopt the North American Charging System (NACS). However, the NACS system will not be integrated into the Recon, and owners will need a NACS adapter to access Tesla supercharging stations.
