What's the story

Mercedes-Benz has previewed the second-generation GLB, a compact crossover that will be available in the US for the 2027 model year. The new model retains its boxy exterior but comes with a completely revamped interior. It features a triple-screen layout like the CLA and CLA Shooting Brake models launched earlier this year. However, unlike these models, the MBUX Superscreen setup will be optional in base versions of GLB.

Interior details

The interior features a floating center console

Though Mercedes hasn't revealed the exact dimensions of the screens, we can expect a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and two 14-inch touchscreens. The layout is similar to that of the CLA, with some physical controls in front of the "floating" center console. The panoramic glass roof with illuminated stars will be an extra-cost option on this model.

Special features

It also gets a head-up display and Burmester sound system

The GLB also comes with a head-up display and a Burmester sound system. Its top section can go from transparent to opaque in milliseconds at the touch of a virtual button in the infotainment system. The main difference between CLA and GLB is at the rear, where Mercedes offers an optional third row with two individual seats for added passenger capacity.

Seating flexibility

The 7-seat version gets a standard sliding 2nd row

The seven-seat version of the GLB comes with a standard sliding second row, while it is optional on five-seater models. When not needed, the rearmost seats can be folded flat into the load floor to expand cargo capacity. Mercedes has not revealed technical specifications yet but an increase in size is expected for this model.

Power options

It will likely share CLA's powertrain lineup

The new GLB is likely to share the CLA's powertrain lineup, including single- and dual-motor EV variants as well as a mild-hybrid setup based on a turbocharged 1.5-liter "M252" four-cylinder engine. Mercedes's compact car renewal will also include a next-gen GLA and a smaller G-Class. A direct replacement for the A-Class is also planned but its form factor remains uncertain at this point.
