Rivian sued in California over Driver+ Level 3 claims
Rivian, the electric truck and SUV maker, is being hit with a class-action lawsuit in California.
The complaint says Rivian exaggerated what its first-generation R1T and R1S vehicles could do, claiming they had Level 3 hands-free driving when they actually did not.
The Driver+ system, hyped by CEO RJ Scaringe back in 2022, is at the center of the dispute.
Suit accuses Rivian of fraud
Filed on June 17, the suit accuses Rivian of fraud and negligent misrepresentation, with plaintiffs pushing for a jury trial.
Rivian has not commented yet; the case is still ongoing.
Interestingly, while these first-generation models are under fire, Rivian's second-generation versions, which were overhauled in 2024, now actually offer upgraded hands-free driving technology, a feature missing from those earlier vehicles according to the lawsuit.
