Tesla center to open in Gurugram on November 26

Tesla will open its first-ever center in India on November 26. The facility will be located at Orchid Business Park in Gurugram, Haryana. This comes after the company opened experience hubs in Mumbai and Aerocity, New Delhi. Tesla had entered the Indian market four months ago with two variants of Model Y priced from ₹59.89 lakh onward.

Tesla's sales performance in India
Despite the high price tag, Tesla has sold 104 units in India during September and October, according to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA). The information was obtained from the government-controlled Vahan website. However, globally, Tesla's sales growth has slowed down with China witnessing a three-year low in October due to stiff competition and declining demand.

A look at new India head
To strengthen its presence in the Indian market, Tesla has appointed Sharad Agarwal as its new country head. Agarwal was previously the Chief Business Officer at Classic Legends, a Mahindra & Mahindra-owned niche two-wheeler manufacturer. He also headed Lamborghini India from 2016 to 2024 and served as the Head of Sales at Audi India.

In India, German brands Mercedes-Benz and BMW dominate the luxury electric vehicle segment with an 80% share. This segment saw sales of 460-480 units last month. Tesla competes with BMW iX1, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Volvo EC40, Kia EV6, and BYD Sealion 7 in India.
