Tesla has sold around 100 cars in India till date
What's the story
Tesla, the US electric vehicle (EV) giant, sold only 40 units of its Model Y SUV in India last month. The sales figure was a sharp decline from the previous month's sales of 64 units. To note, the company had launched its first showroom in India in July and now has two showrooms - one at Maker Maxity, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai and another at Worldmark 3, Aerocity in New Delhi.
Market trends
India's overall EV market is on the rise
Despite the decline in Tesla's sales, India's overall EV market is on the rise. According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), retail sales in October stood at 18,055 units, a 17.78% month-on-month increase from September's 15,329 units. However, despite this growth in the wider market, Tesla's performance has been relatively subdued with a significant MoM decline in their own sales figures for October.
