Waymo recalls thousands of self-driving cars for school bus glitch
Auto
Waymo just recalled over 3,000 of its self-driving cars in the US after a software bug let them illegally pass stopped school busses.
The issue affected their 5th generation automated driving systems but was fixed by November 17 with a software update to all the vehicles.
What's behind the recall?
The recall came after Texas officials reported that Waymo cars had passed stopped school busses at least 19 times since the start of this school year.
Waymo says their system would slow down or stop, but then mistakenly drive on.
They're promising more upgrades and will answer all NHTSA's questions about these incidents by January 20.
