  • Bengaluru's public bus transport service, BMTC, has said students using passes can travel in buses for free till July 31.

They should however have original fee receipt and school/college ID with them. This rule is only applicable for first-timers or those who've lost the previous year's pass, BMTC added.

This will be in place till smart passes are issued to all students, said officials.

  • This year students who have applied for bus passes are paying for their tickets, since BMTC is yet issue Smart Cards.

Normally, there is no cash transaction involved during their journey.

That explains why BMTC focused on students first when it announced the launch of Smart Cards last year. It said all the 4L passes issued to students will be changed to Smart Cards.

Government employees to not get rebate in smart cards

  • Till now, government employees got passes at concessional rates. However, BMTC has decided to roll back that scheme. This is to avoid confusion when Smart Passes are launched for them. Every year, a maximum rebate of Rs. 150 is given to government servants holding passes.
