India initiates export sustainability certification to meet EU, UK rules
India is initiating a sustainability certification framework for export products, so they can meet tough environmental rules in places like the European Union and the United Kingdom.
The Commerce Ministry is chatting with different industries to figure out which products need proof of being eco-friendly and how to show that on a global stage.
The big goal? Help Indian goods stay competitive abroad.
Indian sectors face strict EU rules
Certain sectors, like those sending goods to the EU, face strict regulations around things like deforestation and sustainable design.
Since Europe and North America buy about 40% of India's exports, following these rules is pretty important.
Many Indian products still lack Indian standards, so this new certification will also push states to step up their game across the country.
