India just greenlit 17 more textile projects—here's why it matters
Business
India's Ministry of Textiles has approved 17 new projects under its Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, aiming to ramp up local manufacturing of man-made fiber (MMF) apparel, fabrics, and technical textiles.
This latest round could spark over ₹12,893 crore in sales and open up about 22,650 new jobs.
What's the textile PLI scheme all about?
Launched in September 2021 with a budget of ₹10,683 crore, the scheme rewards companies for boosting production of MMF and technical textiles in India.
The government recently tweaked the rules to get more players involved, and applications are open until December 2025.
With 74 projects already approved before this round, it's clear there's strong momentum—and plenty of opportunities—in India's growing textile sector.
