Hyundai Creta v/s MG Hector: Which one should you buy?

British automaker MG Motor has debuted in the Indian market with its first offering - the MG Hector. Touted as the country's first Internet car, the Hector offers a classic SUV driving experience but with new-age features. Clearly, the car has several key features to take on the segment leader Hyundai Creta. But does it have enough to outshine the rival? Let's find out.

Hyundai Creta v/s MG Hector: At a glance

The Hector looks more muscular and heavy with its taller and broader stance while the Creta gets a sportier finish with Hyundai's Fluidic design language. The Hector also gets LED headlights and fog lamps, heated ORVMs, and chrome accents on the front while the Creta features a cascading grille with projector headlamps and LED light fitments. Winner: Hyundai Creta for its sportier looks.

    Inside the cabin

Inside the cabin, the Creta offers a black dashboard with silver accents, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment, optional ventilated seats, and an electric sunroof. In comparison, the Hector gets premium interiors, 10.4-inch vertically-mounted touchscreen, fatigue reminder, panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting. There is also MG Motor's iSmart technology which offers geo-fencing, real-time navigation, a voice assistant and an embedded Airtel SIM for connectivity. Winner: MG Hector.

    Under the hood

The Creta comes in 1.4-liter diesel, 1.6-liter petrol, and 1.6-liter diesel engine options. The smaller engine comes with manual transmission while the bigger units are available in manual and automatic options. Hector is available in 1.5-liter petrol, 1.5-liter petrol-hybrid, and 2.0-liter diesel engine. The latter two come with a 6-speed manual gearbox while the standard petrol version offers automatic transmission as optional. Winner: You be the judge.

    Pricing: The key factor

The 2019 Hyundai Creta starts at Rs. 9.60 lakh for the 1.6 Petrol E variant and goes upto Rs. 15.63 lakh for the SX 1.6 (O) Executive trim. The MG Hector, on the other hand, starts at Rs. 12.18 lakh for the base Style variant with petrol engine and goes upto Rs. 16.88 lakh for the top-end Sharp variant with diesel engine.

    How things stack up?

While Creta has dominated the sub-compact SUV segment for some time now, MG Hector is sure to garner attention and appreciation. Despite being a little expensive than Hyundai Creta, the MG rival is a better buy with its classic SUV styling, high-tech features, as well as the company's promise of 5 years warranty, 5 years roadside assistance, and 5 labor-free services. Winner: MG Hector.
