Piyush Goyal in Tokyo urges Japanese investment and Indian sourcing
India's Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, visited Tokyo and encouraged Japanese businesses to boost their investments and use more Indian-made products.
He highlighted how the India-Japan partnership is growing stronger in tech, clean energy, defense, and supply chain resilience, areas that matter for both countries' futures.
Goyal says duty targets lower-grade steel
Japanese steel producers raised the issue of safeguard duty.
He explained this duty only targets lower-grade steel where Indian options are available, urging them to choose local suppliers who offer good quality at competitive prices.
He also called out Japanese firms for not giving Indian alternatives a chance, saying it's "not a fair trade."
Goyal meets Ichikawa Keiichi and executives
During his visit, Goyal sat down with leaders from Sumitomo and Mitsubishi to discuss expanding their presence in India.
He also met Ichikawa Keiichi, Secretary General of Japan's National Security Secretariat, Cabinet Office.
