Piyush Goyal urges doubling Japanese companies in India this decade
On his visit to Japan, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal encouraged Japanese companies to ramp up their presence in India, aiming to double the number of Japanese companies operating in India this decade.
He pointed out Maruti Suzuki as proof of what's possible when the two countries team up, and highlighted 2026 as the "India-Japan Year of Shared Horizons," marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Commerce Minister Goyal meets Japanese executives
Goyal sat down with leaders from big names like Sumitomo, Mitsubishi, Tokyo Electron, and MinebeaMitsumi to talk investments, including the company's semiconductor plant project in India.
At a roundtable with about 70 Indian and Japanese businesses, he pushed for tighter supply chain links by connecting Japanese firms with smaller Indian suppliers.
The trip also included strategic talks that signal stronger economic ties ahead.
