Reliance is building world's first autonomous refinery
What's the story
Reliance Industries is gearing up to transform its Jamnagar facility into the world's first end-to-end autonomous refinery, Anant Ambani, the company's Executive Director, announced at the 49th annual general meeting. He said Reliance is leveraging digital technologies to enhance operational efficiency in its oil-to-chemicals business. These include artificial intelligence-led feedstock optimization and an in-house digital logistics platform.
Tech integration
AI-driven tools enhance operational efficiency
Ambani highlighted Reliance's proprietary AI-driven feedstock optimization tool, which now helps in selecting the most efficient crude blends. He also spoke about how the company's digital logistics platform streamlines chartering and supply chain operations. Additionally, smart contract execution tools are being used to improve speed and accuracy in customer transactions.
Business growth
Oil-to-chemicals revenue up 5.7% in FY26
Despite market volatility, Reliance's oil-to-chemicals business reported a 5.7% year-on-year increase in FY26 revenue to ₹6,62,401 crore. EBITDA also rose by 10.1% to ₹60,546 crore during the same period. Ambani attributed this performance to Reliance's diversified sourcing and agile logistics that helped sustain operations amid disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz due to US-Iran war. During the LPG import disruption, Reliance quadrupled its supply, showcasing the strength of its integrated and flexible refining and chemicals complex.
Strategic partnership
Commitment to India's energy security
Ambani reiterated Reliance's commitment as a strategic energy partner to India, saying the company had redirected gas to priority sectors during disruptions. On the upstream side, he said KG-D6 continued to support India's energy security and contributed nearly 30% of domestic gas production. He also noted that coal-bed methane expansion was gaining momentum through multilateral wells.
