Reliance Jio to cover 99% of India's population by Diwali

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio and Samsung have tied up to make sure that 99 per cent of the country's population will use 4G by Diwali this year. As part of its expansion plans, Jio also announced the roll-out of Internet of Things (IoT) services. At present, the company has a subscriber base of 160 million paid customers. Notably, Jio deploys around 8,000 to 10,000 towers every month.

Reliance Jio has 160 million paid users

"We not only acquired 100 million customers in 170 days last year, but also we have the largest migration of free to paid services. Jio has 160 million paid subscribers in less than 16 months of operation," said Tareq Amin, Senior VP Technology of Jio.

Jio plans to work with different sectors through IoT

Through its IoT services, Jio aims to work with sectors like transportation, weather forecasting and agriculture. It is also exploring the possibility of working with third party developers on IoT. Rather than doing city-by-city launch, the company would prefer to introduce IoT pan India. Interestingly, following the launch of Jio, India is one of the largest data consuming countries in the world.
