Singapore's CapitaLand to invest $1B in India data centers
Singapore's CapitaLand Investment is putting $1 billion into India to almost double its data center capacity by 2030—from 245 MW to 500 MW.
CapitaLand is building its data centers in-house
CapitaLand started buying land in 2021 and kicked off construction in 2022.
The current expansion pipeline should wrap up by 2027, with most new data centers popping up in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
By handling both real estate and operations themselves, CapitaLand can build faster without waiting on outside partners.
India's data center boom
India's data center scene is booming—capacity has jumped from just 350 MW pre-pandemic to an expected 5 GW by 2030.
Most of CapitaLand's India revenue comes from hyperscalers (about 70%), with the rest from other businesses, and they're keeping construction costs competitive at around $6.1-6.2 million per MW.
