Stellantis makes Tamil Nadu its global engine and gearbox hub

Stellantis is turning its Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu into its last major global base for making engines and gearboxes, as it gears up for an electric future in Europe and aims for half its US sales to be EVs by 2030.
Right now, the plant builds engines for models like Peugeot 208, Opel Corsa, and Citroen C3.

Why does this matter?

The Hosur facility isn't just big—it's a powerhouse, with 95% of its production exported.
Stellantis has poured over ₹11,000 crore in India and plans to ramp up local parts sourcing through Indian suppliers.
Even as EVs rise globally, India's demand for petrol and diesel cars means the country stays key to Stellantis's worldwide plans.
